IN an effort to reduce the number of new Covid-19 cases at work sectors, the Selangor government has adopted the ring vaccination strategy focusing on the manufacturing and services sectors.
State industry and trade committee chairman Teng Chang Khim said the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) aimed to vaccinate one million employees and it is open to companies and industries to participate voluntarily.
Ring vaccination is a strategy to inhibit the spread of a disease by vaccinating those who are most likely to be infected.
“This is a strategy recommended by the World Health Organisation and it is an industry-oriented programme,” added Teng.
Teng said companies or industries must cover the cost of participating in the programme to vaccinate their employees.
“The cost for two doses per employee is RM350. It is fully borne by the employers and they are not allowed to transfer the cost to their employees.
“This is stated clearly under the agreement,” said Teng in a joint press conference with another state executive councillor, Rodziah Ismail.
Teng said those participating under the programme are not allowed to resell appointment slots and vaccinations are only by appointment.
He said the state government has entered into a supply and distribution agreement with Pharmaniaga Lifescience for the procurement of 2.5 million
doses of Sinovac vaccines.
“So far 62,000 companies have registered under the Selvax industry programme,” Teng said.
“Essential industries and services sector will be prioritised. Factories and companies with the most employees will be given a priority,” he added.
To avoid confusion with federal’s MySejahtera application, Teng said there will be a synchronisation between Selangor’s Selangkah application and MySejahtera.
“For those registering under Selvax, no need to worry because the state Selangkah programme will sync with MySejahtera.
“Eligible parties can apply for the programme or received the appropriate information at vax.selangkah.my or call 1-800-22-6600,” he added. – July 5, 2021.
