MORE than 2.5 million people or 7.8% of the population have completed two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine as of yesterday, said the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply.

An additional 6.1 million people, or 19.2% of the population, have received their first dose, it said on Twitter.

More than 8.8 million shots have been administered, 217,807 of them yesterday, of which 141,140 were first shots and 76,667, second doses.

Putrajaya has outstripped the other federal territories and states in gettting its residents fully inoculated with two doses, at 41.9% of the population. It is followed by Labuan at 25% and Perlis at 23.5%.

For Malaysia to transition to phase 2 of the national recovery plan, 10% of the population must be fully vaccinated.

Other indicators that have to be met are for daily Covid-19 infections to fall below 4,000, and for occupancy of beds in intensive care to drop to “moderate”.

Daily coronavirus cases, however, have exceeded 6,000 in the last four days.

Yesterday, Malaysia recorded 6,658 new infections and 107 deaths from the virus. – July 4, 2021.
