ENTERING Pakatan Harapan cannot be a way for anyone in Barisan Nasional to escape investigation, says PKR.

The party’s communications director, Fahmi Fadzil, said there are concerns that BN MPs, who are allegedly involved in power abuse and corruption, may see membership in PH as a way to cover up probes against them.

“PKR’s political bureau realises that Malaysians had made their choice clear in the 14th general election, to support reform, and reject graft, power abuse and kleptocracy practised by the former regime.

“Joining PH cannot be made an excuse to cover up anyone’s cases,” he said in a statement following the bureau’s meeting last night on talk that BN MPs are joining the ruling coalition.

“This matter will be discussed further in the PH presidential council this Saturday,” the Lembah Pantai MP said.

Bersatu supreme council member A. Kadir Jasin recently said 40 MPs from Umno may jump ship for Bersatu, a member of the ruling PH coalition.

He said 40 MPs had recently met Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is Bersatu chairman, and party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Many in Bersatu, which was formed in September 2016, are former Umno leaders, members or supporters.

Bersatu won 13 parliamentary seats in the May polls, compared to the 50 held by ally PKR, which now has the most seats than any individual party in the country.

Bersatu now has 14 MPs, following the recent defection of Umno’s Jeli MP, Mustapa Mohamed, the former minister of international trade and industry. – October 31, 2018.
