1,251 new Covid-19 cases, more than half in Klang Valley

MALAYSIA reported 1,251 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, with the Klang Valley contributing almost 60% to the total.

The cumulative number of infections since the onset of the pandemic now stands at 4,455,364. 

Seven virus-linked deaths were also reported yesterday, taking the death toll to 35,576. 

Two fatalities were declared dead on arrival (DOA). 

Of the new infections reported in the Klang Valley, the most populous state, Selangor, logged 438 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (284) and Putrajaya (17). 

The only other state besides Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to report daily infections in triple-digits was Penang with 100 cases.

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Perak (64), Kedah (61), Malacca (57), Johor (50), Negri Sembilan (43), Sarawak (34), Pahang (27), Sabah (26), Terengganu (19), Kelantan (15), Perlis (14) and Labuan (2). 

Meanwhile, of the seven deaths reported, three were in Selangor, two in Kedah and one each in Perak and Penang. 

Selangor and Kedah reported one DOA each. 

The number of active cases dropped to 26,099, with 2,599 recoveries logged in the past 24 hours.

A total of 24,978 or 95.7%, of the active cases were in home quarantine, 19 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres and 1,026 (3.9%) in hospitals.

Seventy-six patients were in the intensive care unit, 39 of whom required respiratory assistance. – May 7, 2022.
