9,002 new Covid-19 cases, 30 deaths

MALAYSIA reported a slight increase in daily Covid-19 cases yesterday as the nation recorded 9,002 infections.

Although the number of new cases rose, it was the third straight day the country reported fewer than 10,000 infections.

The new infections bring the cumulative number of cases since the onset of Covid-19 to 4,342,559. 

Malaysia also posted 30 new Covid-19 deaths, of which six were declared dead on arrival (DOA). 

The death toll is now at 35,341, where 7,462 of them are DOA cases. 

Of the new infections, the Klang Valley – comprising Selangor (5,100), Kuala Lumpur (1,003) and Putrajaya (23) – contributed to 6,126 or 68% of the cases.

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Negri Sembilan (493), Perak (373), Johor (359), Penang (355), Kedah (288), Sarawak (245), Terengganu (209), Pahang (153), Sabah (150), Malacca (123), Kelantan (86), Perlis (23) and Labuan (19). 

Of the 30 fatalities reported, Johor logged the highest number, at five, followed by Penang and Sarawak (four each).

Three deaths each were reported in Perak and Selangor, two each in Kedah, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Pahang, and one each in Perlis, Sabah and Terengganu. 

No coronavirus-linked deaths were reported in Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Purajaya.

Of the DOA cases, two each were in Malacca and Sarawak and one each in Kedah and Selangor. 

The fatality rate stood at 0.2% and the cumulative fatality rate, at 0.8%. – April 13, 2022.
