14,944 new Covid-19 cases, 31 deaths

MALAYSIA saw a spike in new Covid-19 cases to 14,944 cases yesterday compared to 11,994 the day before. 

According to data from the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, this brings the cumulative number of cases to 4,307,529. 

Selangor posted the highest number of infections yesterday with 9,674 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur (970) and Perak (637).

Kedah recorded 331 cases, Sarawak (385), Kelantan (127), Negeri Sembilan (579), Pahang (321), Johor (556), Sabah (172), Terengganu (226), Malacca (350), Labuan (22), Perlis (34), Penang (525) and Putrajaya (35).

The country also saw a slight dip in Covid-19-related deaths to 31, compared to 36 fatalities the day before. This brings the death toll to 35,259. 

Out of the 31 deaths, six were dead-on-arrival cases. 

Putrajaya recorded the most deaths, at six. This was followed by Johor (4), Kedah (4), Sarawak (4), Pahang (3), Perak (3), Malacca (2), Selangor (2), Penang (1), Kuala Lumpur (1) and Terengganu (1).

There were no deaths reported in Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Sabah and Labuan.

As of midnight, there were 158,439 active cases, with 3,012 patients hospitalised. 

Of this, 206 were in the intensive care unit, with 109 requiring respiratory assistance.

There were also 14,045 recoveries recorded. – April 9, 2022.
