Forget DAP and stick with MCA, Annuar tells Umno

LEANING towards DAP is not the way for Umno to gain the support of the Chinese, said recently sacked Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Annuar Musa.

In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, the Ketereh MP said that MCA, which is BN’s component party, should be Umno’s sole and only option for cooperation, citing several reasons for his opinion.

“Umno has been cooperating with MCA way back before independence with similar political beliefs, taking a moderate approach to solving problems.

“On the other hand, DAP is a relatively new party that was founded in the 1960s and their longest cooperation with any party just lasting 22 months, while Umno and MCA have been together for over 60 years,” he said, adding that DAP is a socialist party according to its constitution, while MCA is not.

Annuar, who is federal territories minister, said top Umno leaders should stop exploring the opportunity to collude with DAP.

Earlier this month, he accused Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi of conspiring with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP to form a new political alignment without the knowledge of Umno MPs.

He added that the Chinese support for DAP should not be judged based on previous election results.

“With the Chinese being the second largest segment of the population, the cooperation between Umno and MCA has been good and this has been Umno’s unchanged stance.

“It appears that many Chinese support DAP but it is only temporary due to the occurrence of some issues.

“Umno should have faith in Chinese voters and not look at the results of one or two general elections.

“I don’t think the Chinese will support DAP forever as we can see now that many are distancing themselves from the party,” the veteran Umno lawmaker said.

Annuar said that working with DAP could possibly bring the largest Malay political party down, adding that both parties could not even see eye-to-eye.

“DAP has always objected for the sake of objecting and often opposed Umno.

“When DAP was in power, they even tried to recognise communism and worship the leader of Communist Party of Malaya.

“This is against our principle, culture and stance. That is why we cannot cooperate with DAP just for power,” he said. – January 18, 2021.

  • Where did he get the notion that the Chinese are back to supporting MCA.? Under WKS, the party is going downhill and they are no defenders of the chinese, why would any Chinese back them.
