ANNUAR Musa today revealed that Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had used the coalition and Umno for his personal interest.
The sacked BN secretary-general accused Zahid of conspiring with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP to form a new political alignment without the knowledge of Umno MPs.
“There was a black and white support letter issued by Zahid to Anwar to topple the Perikatan Nasional government, which BN is involved in.
“Also, I received verified information on the place and date of a purported meeting with DAP to include them in a new political alignment,” Annuar said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Yesterday, BN chairman Zahid sacked Annuar as secretary-general for acting contrary to the coalition’s interest.
He was replaced by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.
On the alleged conspiracy by Zahid to work with PKR and DAP, Annuar said such action by the party president was unacceptable.
He confirmed Zahid had penned a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on October 17, 2020, claiming that several MPs from BN pledged their support for Anwar, and a desire to topple the PN government.
He said it went against Umno’s political standing and also his own.
“As a (former) secretary-general, I could not support the president’s stance, which could be seen as the party’s official stance. It also involves my principles.
“Umno’s official political stance is they don’t want to work with either Anwar or DAP.
“Hence, when there are such differences in principles, it is better I disassociate myself from Zahid’s directions,” he said.
When asked who else were involved besides Zahid in the move to topple the PN government, Annuar claimed several individuals from Umno’s Supreme Council backed the president on his move.
Annuar also said he would leave it to the wisdom of the council to decide if they would want to work with Anwar and DAP.
The Federal Territories minister also admitted his relationship with Zahid had strained lately. – January 6, 2021.
