TOP PAS leaders yesterday visited Najib Razak after the former prime minister was found guilty in the SRC International graft trial.
In a Facebook post, Najib shared a picture of him with the PAS leaders who visited him at his Taman Duta home.
The PAS leaders were its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and syura council member Khairuddin Aman Razali.
In the post, Najib said true friends were not just those who stuck together in good and bad times.
“They are also the ones who always pray for us. True friends are hard to find,” he said.
Yesterday, Najib was found guilty of seven charges involving RM42 million in SRC International funds that went into his bank accounts.
High court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali also sentenced Najib to 12 years in jail and fined him RM210 million.
Najib, 67, still faces more charges in four other criminal trials
In a separate statement, Hadi said PAS is committed towards Umno and the Muafakat Nasional pact while continuing to strengthen the Perikatan Nasional government.
He said the Islamist party respects the court process but believes that Najib would make full use of the legal process to appeal and ensure justice is done.
“PAS respects the court process in line with the rule of law upheld by the PN government. We are confident that Najib will take full advantage to obtain justice in court at the next level.”
The PAS visit and statement come after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party may have to act following the court guilty verdict on Najib
“I am sad and I sympathise because he is my friend, but he told me that this is not the end of the world.
“Therefore, Umno will have to do something, wait for our decision, which we have to discuss first.
“What we plan to do will be part of efforts to steer the direction of the present government,” Zahid told reporters outside the Kuala Lumpur High Court after Najib’s guilty verdict was delivered. – July 29, 2020.
