ANY action to be taken against transwoman cosmetics entrepreneur, Nur Sajat, who wore the telekung (female prayer garb) while performing umrah recently will take into account several elements including Muslims’ concerns.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa said he will look into all the information obtained before deciding on what action to take against the business executive, whose real name is Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman.
“What’s important is that we want to safeguard the interests of Islam and all Muslims must adhere to Shariah law.
“At the same time if a Muslim commits an offence, he should come back to the true teachings of Islam, do not apologise just for the sake of apologising,” he said after attending the Jamuan Muhibah programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration today.
The event, which was organised by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department and the Malaysian Chinese Muslims’ Association, was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Nur Sajat sparked controversy after she posted videos of her wearing a telekung, the female prayer garments, while in Mecca on social media. – Bernama, February 9, 2020.
