Increased use of race, royalty and religion rhetoric to stir discontent, says Muhyiddin

POLICE intelligence has found an increase in malicious tendencies to use race, religion and royalty as issues to stir discontent, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Police are keeping Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and himself informed of the situation, he said today.

“There is data collected by the police which they have briefed me and the prime minister, the data shows that there is are tendencies with malicious intent, based on the ‘3Rs’.

“There are incidents erupting in parts of the country, when put together the total is almost twice the number of such incidents in the previous year,” said Muhyiddin after delivering a speech at a workshop on nation-building at Akademi Kenegaraan in Kuala Lumpur today.

In his speech, he mentioned the ‘3Rs’ as race, religion and royalty.

Police last night gave an update on the number of reports lodged and ongoing investigations over 3Rs that have triggered public debate in recent weeks.

These involved the alleged insults by controversial preacher Zakir Naik against Malaysian Hindus and Chinese, calls to reject the teaching of khat calligraphy to Year 4 vernacular school pupils and hanging of the Malaysian national flag upside down.

Muhyiddin today said as home minister, he had instructed police not to compromise with those who used race, religion and royalty to divide Malaysians.

“We cannot leave things as they are. If anyone is irresponsible enough to trigger racial or religious sentiments, or to question the royal institution, we cannot compromise.

“Action will be taken. We will definitely take action, not merely issue warnings.”

He urged community heads as well as leaders of political parties, civil society groups and race-based organisations to heed his warning.

His remarks today follow a protest yesterday against the khat issue and ahead of a possible gathering this afternoon in Brickfields against Zakir.

The organiser of the “Say No to Zakir Naik” rally this afternoon has called it off, but messages are still being circulated urging people to show up. – August 24, 2019.

  • You're right, Muhyddin.

It still feels like UMNO is in the govt.

Oh, wait a minute ... It's Bersatu now..

Oh, wait a minute ... aren't they the same? They were once wearing the same badge, you do know that, right?

But look no further, cos, what about the politicians? So, can you tell the boss, what it might have been like, IF - he stops being adamant on Zakir?
