Shafie to discuss security, tourism with Bangsamoro CM

SECURITY and tourism will be among the main topics which will be discussed when Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal meets his counterpart from Philippines-proposed Bangsamoro autonomous region next week.

New Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ghazali Jaafar, who is also Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) vice-chairman, is expected to visit Sabah next week.

“We will try to work together on the aspect of security and bring forth peace in the Sabah east coast districts, as well as cooperation in the field of tourism,” Shafie told reporters in Kota Kinabalu today.

The new Bangsamoro region is expected to replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and the transition is expected to begin later this month.

Ghazali is also the Bangsamoro Transition Commission chairman.

The visiting parties are also expected to meet several Filipino leaders presently residing in Sabah during their visit here.

The Chief Minister’s Department has yet to confirm when Ghazali will meet Shafie next week. – January 6, 2019.
