Najib’s former aide removed as Bank Rakyat chairman

THE Entrepreneur Development Ministry has dismissed Shukry Mohd Salleh as Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Rakyat) chairman with immediate effect, reported Bernama.

Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said the decision was made in accordance with Section 5, sub-paragraph 2(2) of the First Schedule of he Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Act 1978 (Special Provision 202), following Shukry’s involvement in the original 1Malaysia Development Bhd audit report.

“As such, any decisions made by him that had implications for Bank Rakyat throughout his tenure will be reviewed and revoked if they are found to have affected the bank’s interests,” said Redzuan in a statement today.

He said the new chairman’s appointment will be announced once the decision has been finalised.

In a statement dated Saturday, Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad confirmed that the original 1MDB audit report, issued in 2016 by the National Audit Department, had been altered.

Madinah’s statement named Shukry, who is a former private secretary to Najib Razak, the former prime minister himself, former 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy, former auditor-general Ambrin Buang and former chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa.

The auditor-general said a paragraph in the original report stating that wanted businessman Low Taek Jho was present at a meeting of the scandal-hit fund’s board was removed from the final report.

The Public Accounts Committee and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission are investigating the matter. – November 26, 2018.
