VERNACULAR school pupils should watch P. Ramlee films or the Upin & Ipin television series to improve their proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said.

This was a more enjoyable and less stressful way for pupils from Chinese and Tamil schools to learn the national language, he said.

“Shows like P. Ramlee films and Upin & Ipin use the correct Bahasa Malaysia, besides strong teaching about national unity.

“If we can also increase exposure to cultural programmes in a fun and relaxed approach, pupils can learn naturally without the pressure of having to sit for exams alone,” Maszlee said after launching a programme to improve the standard of Bahasa Malaysia at Chinese vernacular schools in Kuala Lumpur today.

Learning a language need not be forced upon pupils for the purpose of passing exams only, but can be taught using different approaches, he said. – October 2, 2018.

  • Omg. What sort of advice is this from a Minister of Education??? Maybe just cancel all classes in favour of kids staying home to watch Astro Pendidikan channels...instant reduction in costs of funding schools and teachers...right Maszlee? Btw, from what I recall from secondary school years ago, it was all the non Malay students that consistently scored highest in BM papers. So how Maszlee?
