THE East Coast Rail Link project will be relaunched by Transport Minister Anthony Loke at the Dungun tunnel site in Rimba Bandar Bukit Bauk today.

The event, scheduled for 11am, will be attended by Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Loke has said the ECRL relaunch will see “a larger function and scope” for local firms involved in the project.

The rail link was 15% completed when the project was put on hold last July.

The government’s renegotiation with the developer saw the costs of Phases 1 and 2 of the project slashed to RM44 billion from the original RM65.5 billion.

The new route is shorter by 40km, bringing its total length from 688km to 648km. It starts in Kota Baru, and runs through Mentakab, Jelebu, Kuala Kelawang, Bangi/Kajang and Putrajaya, ending at Port Klang. – Bernama, July 25, 2019.
