NO Pakatan Harapan (PH) leader has heard of a supposed plot within the pact to dislodge Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said Anwar Ibrahim.

The PKR president said only PAS leaders have been talking about a vote of no confidence, which is expected to be called against Dr Mahathir.

“I have not been able to establish anything. I have been in communications with PH leaders, with Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu, Bersatu leaders and Muhyiddin Yassin, and none of us has even heard (of the plot).

“The only people who have heard (of the plot) are from PAS,” he told reporters after attending Thirukkural International Conference at Universiti Malaya today.

He went on to slam PAS for attempting to undermine PH’s unity by making such claims.

“They have supported and defended corruption in the name of Islam. Their only option left is to sow the seeds of discord,” he said.

When asked if he will support Dr Mahathir if such a motion is tabled in Parliament, the Port Dickson MP said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang should first move the motion.

“It is Hadi’s motion, let him move the motion,” he said.

Yesterday, PAS said in a statement that it was Dr Mahathir who gave the party the impression that he was the victim of a conflict brewing within PH.

PAS said the PH chairman hinted that there is a conflict or a “clash of titans” among component party leaders over Dr Mahathir’s leadership.

Dr Mahathir himself said he will wait and see if PAS leaders will support him as promised in the event of a vote of no confidence against the prime minister.

Last week, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said party leaders had promised to support Dr Mahathir if there is a no-confidence vote against him in Parliament.

Anwar previously had declined to weigh in on the rumours of a plot brewing in PH to topple Dr Mahathir.

He said it was difficult to verify PAS’ claim as its leaders lie to serve their interests.

Anwar said the matter of a plot to oust the prime minister had not arisen in his communications with Dr Mahathir. – February 22, 2019.

  • It's just PAS trying to distract from their RM 90 million fiasco. We need to ask them more questions and refocus on their involvement.
