A MALAYSIAN cosmetic surgeon suspended from practising has been charged with continuing to treat patients at a clinic in Melbourne, which left his patients with horrible scars and deformities, the Sunday Herald Sun reported today.

The surgeon, identified as Dr Faizal Anwar, botched cosmetic surgeries including facelifts, nose jobs and breast enlargements, and is now sued by at least a dozen women.

According to patients, Faizal was a skilled salesman who talked several of them into having cosmetic surgeries that they did not need, or talked them into letting him “fix” his botched surgeries, which only made it worse.

Several patients have had foreign objects inserted into their noses or ears as fillings, which later got loose, caused infection and emitted a foul smell.

Surgeons who later removed the foreign objects could not identify the material.

When the suits came knocking, Faizal claimed he had hit on hard times since his license to practice was suspended and he got de-registered.

He said he had a stroke and is financially incapable of making amends with his patients.

Faizal said, however, that he could not stop patients from taking legal action against him, but it would drive him and his family “onto the pavement”.

He is due to appear in the Werribee Magistrate’s Court next month.

Maurice Blackburn lawyer Tom Ballantyne, who is representing 12 clients in cases related to Faizal and the clinic, warned that most people do not know the difference between cosmetic surgeons and plastic surgeons.

Ballantyne said the two are vastly different in terms of skill and training and carried the same risks as any surgery. – August 27, 2017.
