JARINGAN Melayu Malaysia (JMM) has filed a complaint with religious authorities against prominent social activist Marina Mahathir for allegedly supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LBGT) groups.

The complaint was lodged by the Malay pressure group’s director-general Faizan Mohd Nor with the Federal Territories Islamic Department (Jawi) yesterday, Utusan Online reported.

Faizan said Marina, who is former prime minister-turned-opposition leader Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s daughter, had “liked” a LBGT-related posting of a Twitter user, which showed that she supported the group.

“Her liking the posting is seen as supporting (LGBT) and belittling Islam as the religion of state, as provided in Article 3 of the Federal Constitution,” he  said when urging Jawi to investigate Marina.

Twitter user @mrymler had posted: “Kalau iktiraf pasangan LGBT kan bagus, boleh adopt anak-anak dibuang straight couple ni.” (If LGBT couples are recognised, it would be good, as they can adopt children abandoned by straight couples.)

Faizan said JMM was worried about such developments and wanted Jawi to call up Marina and investigate her.

He was also quoted in the Malaysia Gazette news site as saying Marina was “mother” to LGBT movements.

“(If) we don’t like, don’t (click) ‘like’, we know Marina Mahathir is the mother to LGBTs. She is even the chairman of Sisters in Islam.

“So when others say recognise LGBTs, we know she supports it,” he said. – August 2, 2017.
