ANWAR Ibrahim and Mohamed Azmin Ali must hold the top two positions in PKR to uphold the Reformasi agenda, said state party leaders and grassroots members.
They said the duo are the perfect combination to lead the party following Pakatan Harapan’s historic May 9 polls victory over Barisan Nasional.
Kedah PKR member Azman Nasrudin said Anwar, the party’s de facto leader, should advise those who want to contest against Azmin, the deputy president, to reconsider their decision.
“Anwar must tell or advise those who want to contest against Azmin for the No. 2 post to prioritise the party’s interests, and to act for the sake of the country’s future,” said the Lunas assemblyman.
“There is already evidence of dirty campaigning against Azmin. He has been attacked with slanderous accusations aimed at tarnishing his credibility.”
On Sunday, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli announced that he will vie for the deputy presidency. Rafizi, widely believed to have Anwar’s backing, also introduced his team.
Perak PKR chief Dr Muhd Nur Manuty said the current political landscape requires the party to have a solid leadership to serve as PH’s backbone.
“The combination of Anwar and Azmin is the best and strongest to lead PKR in this new era.”
Nur, who is also a senator, said Azmin’s position as a minister can help the party.
“His position can only strengthen the party from within, and it can push the reform agenda that many of us have been waiting for.”

Penang PKR also expressed support for an Anwar-Azmin leadership.
State PKR leadership council chairman Dr Mansor Othman said the party is not facing only internal challenges, but also external disputes, and these can be settled only by having experienced leaders with solid track records.
Dr Roland Chia, from the PKR central leadership council, told The Malaysian Insight that Azmin has qualities that must not be overlooked.
The Sepanggar division chief urged the party leadership to pick Anwar and Azmin as president and deputy president, respectively, to ensure PKR’s success.
Anwar has confirmed that he will run for the top post in the upcoming party polls.
Azmin is set to announce his decision after today’s Sungai Kandis by-election. He is widely tipped to defend the post, in the face of Rafizi’s challenge. – August 4, 2018.
