PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said he does not feel threatened by anyone challenging his post in the party’s September elections.

“I’m the incumbent. I’m not running against anyone,” the economic affairs minister told reporters tonight in Parliament’s lobby.

If the Gombak lawmaker defends his party post, he will face vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

However, Azmin still remained coy when asked whether he would defend his current post or if he will go for the presidency, which will mean running against his mentor and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Azmin has avoided announcing his decision on which post to contest the past week, first saying he wanted to focus on his parliamentary duties, and then saying he wanted to focus on the Sungai Kandis by-election first before announcing his candidacy.

The by-election is this Saturday, while nominations for the PKR elections open this Sunday. – July 31, 2018.
