DR Idris Ahmad was not the only name proposed for the Selangor menteri besar’s post, said Pakatan Harapan president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, quashing claims by the Ijok rep that he should have been appointed.

The PKR president and deputy prime minister said Idris’ view is his “personal opinion”, as all PH parties were informed when Sungai Tua assemblyman Amirudin Shari was chosen to succeed Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“It is his personal opinion. The parties had suggested a few names, including Amirudin’s,” she told reporters after meeting the menteri besar at the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.

Amirudin was sworn in as menteri besar today amid claims by Idris that Amirudin did not get the blessing of all PH components, and that Idris himself had gotten the nod from the parties.

“I think there is no issue here, because Amirudin was one of the names suggested.

“He has already been sworn in as menteri besar, so we need to focus on administrating the state with the exco line-up that has also taken office.”

Idris was earlier tipped for the appointment. The Malaysian Insight had reported that his name was submitted to the Selangor palace in a letter signed by Dr Wan Azizah, and the heads of the state Bersatu, DAP and Amanah.

But, the palace then requested PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu to submit three names, and Amirudin was one of them.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor PKR secretary, today denied that his meeting with Dr Wan Azizah was about Idris’ dispute.

He said it is normal practice for a newly appointed menteri besar to meet the party president after taking the oath of office. – June 19, 2018.
