A HOUSEWIFE in Seremban has incurred losses of nearly RM1.5 million after falling prey to a phone scam. The scam involved an individual posing as a police officer who contacted the victim over the phone.
Seremban police chief Mohamad Hatta Che Din reported that the incident resulted in losses amounting to RM1,491,832.82, and the police have received a report on the matter.
“The victim had received a phone call from an individual who introduced himself as a policeman and claimed that the victim had committed a crime,” he said in a statement today.
Hatta said the victim was later directed to make payment to several bank accounts that belonged unknown individuals.
He therefore, advised members of the public to always check with the police to avoid being scammed. – Bernama, January 21, 2024.
