DEPUTY Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay disclosed there were certain quarters out to bring him down through a slander campaign adding he would fight and welcome any investigation into the many accusations hurled at him

“There are many slanderous statements and accusations against me (out there). To me, if (the authorities) want to investigate, please do so.

“Please investigate my wife, children, parents, and siblings, too,” he was quoted as saying at a forum in conjunction with Integrity Day 2023 at Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang in Kuala Lumpur.

Ayob, who was also former Johor police chief, had claimed some officers had tried to persuade him to close one eye just before he took over the state police chief’s post in 2020.

He said the officers asked him to ignore “certain things” and to “just follow” the way things were done there, a week before he moved to the southern state.

“There were people who said, ‘Datuk, you only take care of one thing, we take care of the rest’. I asked them in return, what do you want to take care of? No, I will micro-manage.”

Ayob said he’s not the only police officer facing the slander campaign as Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya was facing the same vile campaign, adding that certain parties were pushing to replace Dellhan with “their people”.

This is not the first time a high-ranking police officer had come out to say there were attempts to push them out.

Before he retired in April 2021, former inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador alleged there was a cartel of “dirty cops” which had conspired with criminals to topple him.

However, the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) which later probed the claim concluded Bador’s allegation was unverifiable.

EAIC chairman Mohd Sidek Hassan said the conclusion was based on the findings of the commission’s investigation of witness testimonies and documents obtained.

In an immediate response, Hamid said that Sidek was not familiar with the system in the police force and expressed his disappointment on the findings by the EAIC. – December 7, 2023.

  • Sounds like EAIC is a failure. And another essential service by the government is rotting away. Will PMX have the courage to do police reforms?
