PAKATAN Harapan (PH) has given way to Barisan Nasional (BN) to field the latter’s candidate in the Tanjung Dawai seat for the Kedah elections on August 12. 

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party leadership chose Merbok Umno chief Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin to contest the seat. 

“With the mandate entrusted by the BN chairman (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), I hereby announce Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin as candidate for N26 Tanjung Dawai state constituency, (representing) BN.

“On behalf of BN, I express my appreciation to PH for its spirit of unity by giving way to BN to contest the Tanjung Dawai state seat,” he said in a Facebook post today.

At a ceremony to announce the full list of BN candidates last Friday, Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said BN will contest 108 seats in the six state elections, including 15 seats in Kedah. – Bernama, July 24, 2023.
