SULTAN of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah has consented to dissolve the state on Wednesday, paving the way for elections.
Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor announced this today after meeting with the ruler at Wisma Darul Aman in Alor Star.
In the outgoing 36-seat chamber, Perikatan Nasional holds 20 seats through PAS (14) and Bersatu (6). Pakatan Harapan has 10 seats via PKR (5), Amanah (3) and DAP (2). Barisan Nasional and Pejuang each have two seats. Two seats are vacant after PKR’s Johari Abdul vacated the Gurun seat to take up the position of parliament speaker and Belantek rep Mohd Isa Shafie of PAS died on June 14.
Kedah is among six states set to hold elections this year.
The other five states are Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Kelantan was the first of the six to dissolve its state assembly, on June 22. β June 25, 2023.
