A CHURCH gathering planned for Malacca will have elements of Zionism and might influence Muslims, charged PAS, which has urged the government to put a stop to the event.

Dubbed ‘Jerusalem’s Jubilee’ and organised by the Calvary Life Assembly Chinese (GLAC) – a local Christian denomination – the gathering will be held June 15 to 18.

Posters of the event featured a giant golden menorah with the words “All Malaysian-Golden Gate Revival Convocation” emblazoned underneath in gold-coloured fonts.

PAS information chief Nasaruddin Hassan Tantawi described the planned gathering as a form of provocation towards the Muslim community in Malaysia.

“We do not restrict or oppose the freedom of religion. But this gathering does not exemplify harmony among religions that has long existed in Malaysia,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Malacca PAS Youth has lodged a police report in the state, calling for further investigation into the gathering.

Its chief Ahmad Bilal Rahudin said the planned gathering has caused “anxiety”, charging that the pastors and speakers that will speak at the gathering were known to preach and proselytise in Malaysia.

As an example, he said the All Nationals Convocation Jerusalem founder Tom Hess once stated that he imagined Malaysia to be a “troubled nation that requires saving.”

“It clearly has seditious elements, especially to the Christians of this country,” he said.

Meanwhile Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Kamarul Yusof said the gathering confirmed his belief that Malaysia is the target of “Christianisation”.

In a Facebook post today, he expressed “suspicion” as the gathering is to be held on the month of Ramadhan

“This is in tandem with the statement by Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh in her book, when she claimed that God has a plan for the Christians of Malaysia,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nasaruddin said the party has no plans to hold a protest.

“We have not reached that level yet as we want the government to take action first,” he said.

Malay rights pressure group Perkasa said the event was an affront to Malaysia and Islam as the event allegedly celebrates Israel’s victory over Palestinians in the Six-Day war, that took place 50 years ago.

“Why do Malaysian Christians choose to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Israel over Palestine during the month of Ramadan in Malacca,” said Dr Amini Amir Abdullah in a statement today.

“We believe this celebration is part of the evangelism programme in Malaysia with invited guests from overseas to instigate local Christians to support Zionism and destroy the harmony and peace in Malaysia.

“We protest such programmes as it does not take into account Muslim sensitivities and insults Muslims, challenges the royal institutions and is against the Federal Constitution.”

The Calvary Life Assembly Chinese has not responded to calls from The Malaysian Insight on the event. – June 5, 2017.
