DAP trumps MCA in CNY video polls, says Kit Siang

WHILE it remains to be seen how MCA will fare in the 14th general election, one thing is already clear – the party is losing to DAP in the contest for the more popular Chinese New Year video.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said unlike MCA’s election results, which would only be known on polling day, the less-than stellar results of its festive videos were evident now.

“What is immediately known is that the MCA leadership’s CNY video featuring MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, deputy president Wee Ka Siong and secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan as well as the entire MCA national leadership is unable to garner the viewership of DAP deputy secretary-general and Seputeh MP (Teresa) Kok’s video,” he said in a statement today.

As of 5pm today, Kok’s video on YouTube has netted 64,076 views since it was posted yesterday, while the MCA video on Youtube has received 301 views after it was posted yesterday.

DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s CNY video was also receiving substantially more views than the MCA president and Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai’s, he said.

As of this morning, the results are as below:

Guan Eng’s CNY video (up 89 hours) – Views 427k; Reactions 22k (20 Like, 1.6k Love); Share: 10k.

Liow’s CNY video (up 122 hours) – Views 36k; Reactions: 1.1k (1k Like, 59 Love); Share  527.

As for MCA’s performance at the polls, Kit Siang said three of MCA’s foremost leaders would be depending on Umno to bring in the votes.

“In Bentong, the parliamentary constituency of Liow, the biggest ethnic bloc of voters is Malay at 46.1%, followed by Chinese 42.4%, Indian 9.0% and others 2.5%.

“In Ayer Hitam, the parliamentary constituency of Wee Ka Siong, the largest ethnic group of voters is Malay at  57.6%, with Chinese at 38.3%, Indian 3.9%, and others 0.2%.

“In Tanjong Malim, the parliamentary constituency of Ong Ka Chuan, the largest ethnic group of voters are again Malay at 55.4%, with Chinese 25.8%, Indians 13.2% and orang Asli 5.6%.

“In fact, Malay voters represent the largest ethnic group in six of the seven parliamentary constituencies won by MCA in the 13th general election.

“Is the MCA representing the Chinese in Barisan Nasional or is it representing Umno to the Malaysian Chinese?  Or is MCA representing all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion?” – February 15, 2018.
