AN extra week of campaigning may have produced a different result, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said tonight, as opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH) faced a thumping in the Johor elections.

Lim said Barisan Nasional (BN) would not have won if there had been an extra seven days to the campaign.

The Iskandar Puteri MP said Johor folk had begun to realise that they could not support kleptocratic leaders.

“The results were a reaffirmation that people do not easily succumb to negative propaganda aimed at PH. This also shows that people want to see changes in Johor and in Malaysia.”

“BN will not have won if we had had an extra week of campaigning,” he was quoted by reporters at the PH operations centre tonight.

Unofficial results predict BN taking 42 seats in the 56-seat assembly, with 12 for PH and three for Perikatan Nasional.

DAP has lost or expected to lose three seats: Yong Peng, Kukup, Paloh and Pekan Nenas, while retaining the remaining 11 seats it contested.

Its state chief Liew Chin Tong, making his debut in a state election, retained the Perling seat for the party for a second term. – March 12, 2022.
