71.3% of adults inoculated against Covid


ABOUT 16.7 million adults, or 71.3% of the grown-up population, in Malaysia have completed Covid-19 vaccination as of yesterday, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said.

It said  51.1% of the population in Malaysia have been inoculated against the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, 21.08 million adults, or 90% of the adult population and 64.5% of the general population have received at least one dose.

The committee said 322,346 shots of Covid-19 vaccines were administered yesterday. Of these, 133,861 were first doses and 188,485, second doses.
 
This brings the total number of doses administered under the national vaccination drive to 37.71 million. 

Klang Valley led the vaccination race with 99.1% of its adult population and 72.5% having been fully vaccinated.

Sabah remains the only state to have a vaccination coverage of less than half of its adult population. About 47.9% of the state’s adult population and 33.8% of its general population have been fully vaccinated.

Malaysia took delivery of the single-dose CanSino vaccine in August, which has since been administered in remote and rural areas.

Putrajaya has also started distributing the single-dose vaccine to the six states with a low vaccination rate.

Only double-dose vaccines from Pfizer, Astra-Zeneca and Sinovac were used prior to the arrival of CanSino..

Vaccination of children aged 12 and more started on Wednesday in Sarawak, with Labuan and the Klang Valley to soon follow suit.

Malaysia yesterday reported 19,733 new infections, 22,701 recoveries and 361 deaths. – September 10, 2021.
