Residents protest telco tower construction in Negri Sembilan

THE Negeri Sembilan government has had to postpone the construction of telecommunication towers in several locations in the state following protests from residents who refused to allow them to be built near their residential areas.

Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said that the residents need to understand that the construction of the towers is to provide the best telecommunication network to the people. The state government also does not want the state to be left behind in terms of communication coverage.

“The government, through the local authorities, has received several objections from residents on the grounds that the construction is (too) close to the house and they are worried about radiation.

“However, the relevant parties have actually complied with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set, including building at a distance of more than 30m from the residents’ houses,” he said at a press conference after chairing the weekly exco meeting at Wisma Negeri in Seremban today.

He said that the state government has also approved more than 70 applications for the construction of telecommunication towers in rural areas, as well as several urban areas including Seremban, Seremban 2, and Nilai. – Bernama, January 27, 2021.
