A TRAVEL report has found that fear of contracting Covid-19 while flying are relatively tepid, with most consumers open to air travel.

This was one of the findings of travel data and insight provider OAG’s “Covid-19 Recovery: Getting Passengers Back on Board” report on traveller confidence, based on a global survey of more than 4,000 users of its flightview travel app.

Key findings include 69% of respondents want to fly internationally within the next six months, while 79% are planning domestic air travel.

Eagerness to travel was more apparent among millennials and members of the Gen-Z, with both generations less likely to make travel adjustments and more eager to travel domestically compared with their worldwide counterparts.

In addition, nearly one-third did not intend to change travel habits and 76% of respondents said making masks compulsory is the most effective safety measure airlines and airports can implement, followed by improved cleaning procedures.

“Most consumers, especially younger travellers, are prepared to fly under the right circumstances,” OAG chief analyst John Grant said.

“The lack of fear is certainly surprising and bodes well for market recovery. Of course, full recovery will be driven by how well we fight the pandemic globally and when travel restrictions are safely lifted.” – Bernama, October 7, 2020.
