UMNO has postponed all its divisional meetings across the country following the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the instruction to postpone all the meetings came from party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Also affected are the divisional level meetings of Umno’s Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings.

“The party president has instructed me to call for a postponement of all Wanita, Youth, Puteri and divisional meetings.

“The postponement is of immediate effect,” said Maslan.

He added that Senior Minister and Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob also felt the meetings should be postponed to later dates.

“We can’t take the risk (of infections) and we don’t want Umno to be blamed.

“The postponement will be until further notice and this directive is to be complied with by all divisions,” Ahmad said.

Umno’s division meetings were scheduled to be held from September 15 to October 31, with the party’s state conventions to be held next month.

The Umno general assembly is fixed for November 25-28.
