WARISAN president Mohd Shafie Apdal acknowledged the outcome of the Sabah polls but did not concede defeat to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
“We can see from this decision that Warisan is the one single party with the most seats with 23. I view this as a show of appreciation from all the people who have fulfilled their responsibility and voted in a group of capable leaders.
“We will not forget the confidence and trust that the people have placed in us amid political instability at the national and state levels, and have given us the most seats,” he told a media conference about 1am.
The former chief minister said he will continue to monitor political developments in the state but sidestepped questions when pressed if he will try and form a state government.
The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition won a total 38 state seats, enabling them to form a government with a simple majority.
Their closest rival, the Warisan Plus coalition, won 30 seats, with component parties DAP and Upko winning six and one each, while ally PKR snatched two seats.
This gives them a total of 32 seats overall.
Independents won three seats.
GRS is made up of Perikatan Nasional, which won 17 seats, Barisan Nasional (14) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (7). – September 27, 2020.
