PARTIES in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) have won a total 38 state seats, enabling them to form a government with a simple majority.

Their closest rival Warisan won 29 seats, and their allies PKR and Upko won two and one seat respectively.

This gives them a total of 32 seats overall.

Independents won three seats.

GRS is made up of Perikatan Nasional who won 17 seats, Barisan Nasional (14) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (7).

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the GRS pact just before the elections.

It brings together his own party Bersatu, which leads the PN coalition and Umno, which is the mainstay of BN.

The GRS victory sees Warisan losing hold of the state it won in the last general election.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin tonight congratulated GRS candidates who won.

The Bersatu president said the victory showed people were confident in parties under GRS.

“I congratulate all GRS candidates who won in this election. Now is the time for you to serve the people well and show them we are really concerned for them.

“What is important, is that the new state government to be formed by GRS work hard to fulfil all commitments made in the pact’s ‘Aku Janji’,” he said in a televised address tonight. – September 26, 2020.
