TM responds to ‘unfair’ claims

WE refer to the complaint titled TM contract unfair but subscribers must take it or go without, published in The Malaysian Insight on August 30.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) would like to thank Ravinder Singh for his feedback and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. We would like to take the opportunity to clarify this matter with both Ravinder as well as The Malaysian Insight readers.

The matter was brought to our attention in May and we explained the situation to Ravinder and the subscription options he has. We wish to clarify that the customer initially subscribed to our unifi Lite special promotional package at RM50 per month with an option to include unifi TV’s Varnam pack bundled together at a promotional price of RM80 per month.

Upon his request to omit the Varnam pack from his subscription package in May, his monthly broadband subscription fee was then reverted to the original retail price of RM69 per month for the subscription of unifi Lite 10 (without unifi TV). We have duly informed the customer that the new subscription fee will be reflected in his unifi bill starting June.

In the meantime, we have also responded and provided the relevant information to the Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia on the matter for their further investigation.

Meanwhile, should our unifi customers have any enquiries or require any service assistance, we appreciate it if they can contact us via any TM’s digital channels as below:

  • Live Chat via the myunifi app (available on Google Play/Apple Store)
  • Unifi self-help portal at unifi.com.my/chat
  • Facebook at facebook.com/weareunifi
  • Twitter at @helpmeunifi

Alternatively, complainants can also call our TM Contact Centre at 100 or send us an email at [email protected]. – September 3, 2020.

  • TM states: " .....promotional package at RM50 per month with an option to include unifi TVs Varnam pack bundled together at a promotional price of RM80 per month."

TM is misrepresenting the fact about OPTION. It's earlier reply stated:
"Furthermore, CSP has mentioned the package was bundled with HyppTV and customer are not allow to exclude the HyppTV", and from the recording of the telemarketing :"Mr memang kena ambil, pakej ini bundle dengan Unifi.

Two questions I had asked the MCMC are: (1) was I not entitled to any benefit under the MSAP and (2) whether it is fair to bundle the Hypp TV costing RM30.00 with internet costing RM50 and make it compulsory to get internet at RM80 or not get internet at all?

MCMC must make a decision whether such a contract term is not inconsistent with Part IIIA - Unfair Contract Terms, of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 which applies mandatorily to all contracts.
