CHINI constituents are advised to cast their ballots for Saturday’s by-election according to the suggested time printed on voters’ cards, which have been sent out.

“The proposed time slots are to prevent voters from gathering in large numbers, and to ensure social distancing at polling centres. This is in line with procedures to curb the spread of Covid-19 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988,” said Election Commission deputy chairman Azmi Sharom in a statement today.

He said voters can go directly to their assigned lanes, which are stated on the cards, without having to check at EC stations.

Those who have not received their cards because they have changed addresses are urged to check their status and information relating to the polls at “pengundi.spr.gov.my, the MySPR Semak portal and EC hotline at 03-8892-7018, or send an SMS to 15888 (type ‘SPR Semak No. Kad Pengenalan’)”, he said.

The Pahang state seat will see a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Sharim Md Zain, 41, and independents Tengku Zainul Hisham Tengku Hussin, 64, and Mohd Shukri Mohd Ramli, 49.

Polling hours have been set from 8am to 5.30pm. – Bernama, July 2, 2020.
