MALAYSIA for the second time this week recorded more recoveries from Covid-19 than new cases, when Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today announced that 166 people have been discharged, while 156 new infections have been recorded.

He said the total number of Covid-19 recoveries is now 1,487, while the country has logged 4,119 infections of the novel coronavirus that was first reported in China in December and is now spreading worldwide.

Dr Noor Hisham said two more people have died of the virus – one of them a Pakistani national who had attended the tabligh gathering in Sri Petaling. Sixty-five people have died of Covid-19 in Malaysia so far.

He said 76 Covid-19 patients are in intensive care, with 45 of them needing respiratory support.

On Monday, Malaysians cheered when 236 Covid-19 patients were discharged against 131 new cases, sparking hope that the country was making inroads in the battle to “flatten the curve” of infections.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Pakistani was 69 years old and is the second foreigner to die of the virus in Malaysia after an Indonesian academic died in Kuching. The Pakistani was admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 22 and died this morning at 9.30am.

He said the second patient was a 58-year-old woman who was admitted to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Negri Sembilan on March 30. The woman was a diabetic and died yesterday at 3.20pm. – April 8, 2020.
