PAKATAN Harapan is making itself look ridiculous with its immature approach to the prime minister’s power handover, said lawyer and activist Siti Kasim, as the pact’s leaders urge members to end their public bickering.

She said even Barisan Nasional knows not to quarrel out in the open.

“It amuses me to see all the camps in PH shouting to each other, wanting their bosses to be the PM,” she tweeted today.

“It is this sort of immaturity that’s making PH look ridiculous. One thing. You would never see BN parties do this. They are smarter in screwing us.”

The founder of the Malaysian Action for Justice and Unity Foundation said PH politicians’ comments on the transition issue show that they are only thinking about themselves, and not addressing the people’s concerns.

Among the said concerns, she said, are the government’s decision not to make public the Institutional Reforms Committee (IRC) report, delay in setting up the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) and Putrajaya’s U-turn on ratifying international treaties, namely the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) and Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

“Where are their voices on issues that are really affecting the rakyat? The religion-centric teachings in our schools, the holding of the reports on IRC, IPCMC, ICERD, ROME STATUTE etc… WHERE?

“But when it comes to issues, we hear nothing. Kereta terbang (flying car) – nothing. Menteri suruh dakwah (minister allowing Islamic missionary work) – nothing.”

Some PKR lawmakers and DAP leaders have been pushing for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to hand over the reins to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim in May, leading to squabbles between coalition members.

The power handover plan, which has been agreed to by all PH components, does not have a timeline.

Dr Mahathir has hinted that he will make way for Anwar after the 2020 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, to be held in Kuala Lumpur in November.

The bitterest exchange of words has been between Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy and Bersatu youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who yesterday defended Dr Mahathir and blasted DAP and PKR leaders for pressuring the prime minister to resign.

Ramasamy, a DAP man, told Syed Saddiq to “close his gap”, and in a tweet today, called the youth and sports minister a “baby boy”.

Anwar and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang have called for an end to the open spats and “obsession” over the issue. – January 22, 2020.
