POLICE have been asked to investigate the recent Sg Selangor pollution cases that disrupted water supply to more than a million households, said Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

The water, land and natural resources minister said he has discussed the matter with the inspector-general of police.

“Two pollution incidents in the span of three days cannot be taken lightly.

“As such, after discussions with the IGP, I have asked police to investigate the incidents,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the presence of pollutants in the river could be considered an act of sabotage, and that he has held talks with Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, too.

Last night, Xavier said the National Water Services Commission will lead the probe.

The Sg Selangor Phases 1, 2 and 3 Water Treatment Plants, and Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant were first shut down on Friday, following a pollution incident.

Operations were once again stopped yesterday after a diesel spill was discovered in the river.

The plants resumed operations at 3.30am today, but Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd said it will take time for the water pressure and supply to be restored to normal levels. – July 22, 2019.
