SULTAN of Kelantan Muhammad V divorced his wife Rihana Oxana Gorbatenko on June 22 in Singapore according to sharia law, his lawyers in Singapore said today.

Eversheds Harry Elias issued a statement earlier today, in which it said the divorce was irrevocable by “three talaqs in accordance with sharia laws”.

The sultan’s lawyers added the Kelantan Sharia Court subsequently issued a divorce certificate on July 1, 2019, in accordance with the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2002.

The marriage between the 50-year-old sultan and the 26-year-old former beauty queen lasted little more than one year, with the couple reportedly tying the knot on June 7, 2018.

However, the entire relationship has been shrouded in secrecy with little if any news from Istana Negara, which has run the course with the sultan’s abrupt abdication as agong at the start of the year. – July 20, 2019.
