FOUR major water treatment plants in Selangor have resumed operations after yesterday’s pollution scare and water supply is being gradually restored to households, Syabas said today.

The Sg Selangor Phase 1,2 and 3 water treatment plants, as well as the Rantau Panjang treatment plant, are operating again, it said.

As at 6am today, restoration of water levels and pressure to supply reservoirs was at 19%, although the state water distributor said it could not give a fixed timeframe for full restoration.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari this morning posted on his social media that the four treatment plants had resumed operations.

Syabas yesterday said it had activated its “code red” emergency action plan that affected more than a million households in 1,133 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

The action plan followed the discovery of pollutants in the raw water supply.

Syabas today said it is still working with the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) and the Hulu Selangor district council to identify the source of pollution, which it described as a strong smell coming from Sg Liam in Batang Kali.

“Enforcement agencies will later announce to the public updates on the source of pollution,” Syabas said.

Because such a large number of households and areas are affected, Syabas said it will not be sending water tanks but the public should come to 16 of its service centres and 17 public taps to obtain water.

These are listed at its website.

Syabas also said the public can receive updates from its social media platforms under @airselangor or call 15300. – July 20, 2019.
