THE meeting with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was to discuss administrative ties between Terengganu and Putrajaya, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Present at yesterday’s meeting, which was initiated by Hadi, were Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.
“(The discussion was on) petroleum royalty and economic affairs, and also to ensure that there is no conflict in the projects undertaken by the federal and state governments,” said Hadi in a video on Facebook.
He said Terengganu has received its share of the petroleum royalty for last year, but a portion was deducted to repay the state’s debts.
Kelantan, on the other hand, has yet to receive its share, with the payment stalled due to a legal tussle. The PAS-ruled state has withdrawn its petroleum royalty claim filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court against national oil company Petronas and the federal government.
Dr Mahathir met the PAS delegation at Al-Bukhary Foundation in Kuala Lumpur for about 45 minutes. It was his second meeting with Hadi since becoming prime minister following the 14th general election.
Hadi questioned why Putrajaya deducted a percentage from Terengganu’s oil royalty but did not do so for Sabah and Sarawak.
He said Terengganu is still in talks with the federal government on whether such cuts will be made to its share this year.
On PAS’ collaboration with Barisan Nasional for the March 2 Semenyih by-election, Hadi said it is important that the position of Malays and Islam is strengthened in the government. – February 16, 2019.
