MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said today it has nothing to do with the “klia2 fee” that AirAsia collects as part of the ticket price.
MAHB said the airline had imposed the fee since the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 opened in 2014.
“The only charges to the passengers collected by Malaysia Airports are the passenger service charges (PSC) of RM11 for domestic departure, RM35 for international departure to Asean countries and RM73 for international departure to non-Asean countries,” it said in the statement.
AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said on Tuesday the budget airline will stop collecting the RM3 fee from next week.
The fee waiver was part of the low-cost carrier’s efforts to strip down the costs so that “all you’ll get from AirAsia is an airfare and whatever else you want to add on,” Fernandez said on Facebook Live.
He said AirAsia was also “looking really hard” at removing the processing fee.
In 2014, the budget airline justified collecting from each passenger the sum of RM3, which is listed on the ticket as “klia2 fee” with a need to cover costs incurred by the new infrastructure and systems at the new airport.
The costs its needed to cover included aerobridge charges and a new check-in system.
The fee was not imposed at its old hub, the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT).
“Lower our costs, that’s all we are trying to do. Every time we fight with Malaysia Airports, it’s about lowering costs.
“We are going to remove the klia2 fee next week. There is not going to be a klia2 fee anymore. We’re going to go directly to Malaysian Airports for all those extra costs they are costing us,” Fernandes said.
“We’re trying to get rid of all these extra charges. Everything we fight for is to keep prices low.” – January 3, 2019.

And how does Air Asia run the place?
Well, they do give you cheap flights. But they also run their show like a pasar malam. You want cheap flight? You got it! Pasar malam style!
Ground staff who are blur, kiosks that do not function while long queues form up, numerous flights that are delayed. You need to print every darn thing out, cos Air Asia wants to save costs, and give you el-cheapo flights
And if you encounter any problem - then you be damned.
Cos you want cheap.
