MALAYSIANS have a week left to contribute to Tabung Harapan Malaysia before the fund is closed on December 31, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

“Interested contributors are urged to donate as soon as they can before December 31. Tax relief will be given to their contributions,” said Lim in a statement today.

The government has announced that the Tabung Harapan Malaysia account will be closed on December 31

The fund was launched on May 30 by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to collect public funds to help pay the national debt of RM1 trillion.

The fund has collected RM199,140,218.80 as of December 23.

Lim said the National Audit Department would carry out an audit to ensure the funds were managed with integrity and in an orderly manner.

“The government would like to thank all Malaysians for their contributions. We appreciate every single sen donated.

“This shows the rakyat are with the government in wanting to help settle the national debt,” he said.

He said the government also appreciated the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V’s gesture of cancelling his September 9 official birthday celebrations and royal tea reception to return the  allocated funds to the government via Tabung Harapan. – December 23, 2018.
