YESTERDAY’s rally against the elimination of racial discrimination was a huge success as it conveyed the wishes of all Malaysians, said former prime minister Najib Razak.
He said Malaysians had gathered peacefully yesterday to say no to ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
“We have sent a clear message to the Pakatan Harapan government.
“Malaysians want their rights and unity protected, to respect each other and carry on with the 1Malaysia principle,” he said on Facebook.
He said the unity of the Muslims and Malaysians was a historic even
“Rise and defend,” he said in another post.
Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor participated in the rally yesterday which saw about 55,000 people in attendance.
Organised by Muslim NGOs, and supported by Umno and PAS, the rally was originally planned to object the government’s decision to oppose the ratification of the convention. However it was turned into a thanksgiving gathering after the government made backed down.
Those objecting to ICERD say the convention is anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Malay rulers. – December 9, 2018.
