AirAsia, AirAsia X fined for advertising misleading ticket prices

THE Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has fined AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd RM160,000 each for advertising misleading fares.

Both entities have paid up, with AirAsia settling its fine on October 26 and AirAsia X, November 9.

Mavcom said the misleading ticket prices were advertised in the second quarter of the year.

The offence falls under non-compliance with sub-paragraph 3(1) of the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code 2016 (MACPC), it said.

MACPC requires that airlines publish the full and final prices.

“The final price shall include taxes, fees, charges and surcharges that are unavoidable, at the time of publication. AirAsia and AirAsia X were imposed a financial penalty, amounting to RM160,000 each, for advertising misleading ticket prices,” said Mavcom. – Bernama, December 4, 2018.
