INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Fuzi Harun today refuted earlier reports claiming that Low Taek Jho has been arrested in China, saying that the fugitive businessman is still at large and his whereabouts are unknown.
Fuzi told reporters this morning that there is insufficient information about Low’s location but confirmed that that an Interpol red notice has been issued on the fugitive financier.
Whistle-blower site Sarawak Report ran a story yesterday saying that a Hong Kong radio station, which it did not name, reported Low had been captured in China.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad also said he has not been informed of any arrest.
“No information, all I know is that he (Low) is jumping from place to place,” Dr Mahathir said when met at the Parliament lobby today.
The Interpol red notice was issued on May 11.
When asked if he knew anything about claims by a foreign publication that Low had undergone plastic surgery to alter his looks, Fuzi replied: “I can’t comment on that”.
Low is one of the key figures wanted by Malaysian authorities to assist in investigations into the scandal-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The US Department of Justice has accused him of masterminding the 1MDB scandal which saw billions siphoned off the state investor.
Low, who is a close confidante of former prime minister Najib Razak, hails from Penang and was believed to have recently fled from Macau. – July 19, 2018.
