4,765 new Covid-19 cases, 2,082 in Selangor

Malaysia today logged 4,765 new Covid-19 cases, the highest reported in a single day since January 31. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Afif Abd Halim, May 12, 2021.

MALAYSIA reported 4,765 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, which is the highest reported in a single day since January 31. 

Of this number Selangor recorded 2,082 new infections. 

The country saw 5,298 cases on January 31. 

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the fresh cases bring the national caseload to 453,222.

He also warned that the number of daily cases may reach 5,000 in mid-May. 

There was a marked difference between the number of new cases in Selangor and all other states on the tally. 

Kuala Lumpur, which had the second highest number of cases, reported 540 infections, followed by Sarawak at 405.

Active cases, which have been on an uptrend since April 6, surpassed 40,000.

Only seven of today’s cases were imported while the rest were from local transmissions.

On recoveries, Dr Noor Hisham said 3,124 people had recovered from the coronavirus, taking the cumulative total of recoveries to 411,360. – May 12, 2021.
