MOTIONS by Umno grassroots to reject political cooperation with Bersatu will be discussed at the party’s Supreme Council meeting on Wednesday, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

Zahid said 143 out of 191 division chiefs made their stand not to work with Bersatu, which will be made official by the respective divisions.

“This Wednesday, the Supreme Council will meet, and we will discuss this matter (rejection of working with Bersatu).

“I hope any decisions made later will be taken as a collective party decision, and if a resolution has been reached, then everyone should agree to it,” he said in Bagan Datuk, as quoted by Berita Harian Online.

Zahid said the views of Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman that the party will only work with PAS in the 15th general election will also be discussed in the meeting.

Tajuddin, the party’s elections director, said Umno will not work with Bersatu in GE15, but only with PAS, under the Muafakat Nasional charter sealed in September 19.

Tajuddin, who is also Pasir Salak MP, said it was up to PAS if it wanted to cooperate with Bersatu in GE15, which must be held by 2023.

While Umno and PAS are allies under MN, PAS and Bersatu are partners in the Perikatan Nasional coalition, which Umno has refused to join. Umno said its MPs are only supporting the PN government.

Several Umno divisions that met this weekend decided against working with Bersatu, including Kuala Selangor, Kubang Kerian, Johor Baru, Pasir Salak and Padang Rengas.

The likes of Pahang Umno has advised Bersatu to not contest in the state in GE15, while Perak and Malacca Umno have vowed to contest in all seats, including those held by candidates who have hopped from Umno to Bersatu.

However, Putrajaya Umno has opted to support the government led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Several Umno divisions also made resolutions to not work with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP. On the other hand, there were reports of divisions calling for cooperation with the two.

Division meetings, including the three wings, are happening this weekend, as the party gears up for the much delayed general assembly, to be held on January 30 and 31. – January 3, 2021.
