THE Health Ministry has identified a new Covid-19 cluster, involving security personnel at a mall in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 10 cases – nine Nepalis and a Malaysian – have been reported in the cluster.

“The cause of infections in this cluster is still under investigation.

“We have taken precautionary and preventive measures, and identified and screened all the workers who came into close contact with those infected.

“All the Nepalis in this cluster live in the same house in Cheras,” he told a daily press conference on Covid-19 in Putrajaya today.

Of the 436 people tested, 10 are positive for the coronavirus and 347 negative, while 79 are awaiting their results.

“The Cheras and Titiwangsa district health offices will continue to monitor this cluster,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

“All close contacts have been called for screening and given health advice.”

He reported 74 Covid-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours, nearly double the number of new infections.

There are 39 new cases, 30 of whom are foreigners.

The national tally now stands at 6,467, while the death toll remains 107. – May 7, 2020.
